First post!

Hiya!

 

This is my first blog post so hiya! I'm Ems a 21 year old gamedev from the UK. I've been working on a horror game in which the main mechanic is something to do with a TV. That's on hold right now, but I want to get back to it!

I'm also making a game called Spellington, which is a sort of replacement for a Discord activity called Spellcast, which unfortunately no longer exists. Similarly to spellcast, you have to connect letters to make words. It also has scrabble-ish rules. Rarer letters have higher scores, and you can get triple letters and double words! I had a lot of fun playing Spellcast so I though I'd try my hand at making something similar! I've had to change how I think about implementing features, as it is an online multiplayer game. I'm using Purrnet for the netcode. It's been very easy to use, so I'm glad it exists! This project is also on hold as I complete uni assignments, but I'm really hyped to come back and work on it! I'm really happy with what I've done so far, but I'm sure the netcode is scuffed since it's my first time doing it haha. Here's a client and host synced up! I'm super proud of this.

The background art isn't mine! You can find it here. I've got integration with a free online dictionary API set up. I have to add scoring and checking against the dictionary API next! Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with this project. Hopefully I can get it on Discord when it's done. I don't really know how that works.

I'm also gonna be working on a PT-like horror game for an assignment. I know, how cliché. I wish I had started work on Spellington before I settled on the horror game, because I really like working on Spellington but hey, it might be interesting! Who knows :3? Speaking of assignments, I'm currently working on a VR swordfighting game that mimics the Wii Sports Resort gamemode: Sword Showdown. I think there's a lot more that I would like to do with it but I've discovered I don't really like VR development. So if anyone wants to make a more fleshed out game like Sword Showdown in VR, please do! I'm not sure I'll be publishing this one but I like talking about what I'm working on!
